Teaching Style
After School Enrichment programs are a fun, exciting and easy way to learn how to play an instrument and create music.
Group Piano:
Using a combination of traditional methodologies and modern techniques, students will learn to read, compose and perform modern music pieces. Students will learn to read treble and bass clef, play triads in major and minor keys, play a variety of scales and learn how to improvise and compose. Our curriculum is modified to fit the ability of individual students and classes.
Group Guitar:
Our team-developed guitar curriculum focuses on the individual needs of each student. The techniques learned in this course will enable the students to perform with rock bands, school bands, guitar ensembles and to compose original music.
Rock Chorus:
Students will learn to develop consistent singing tone using a healthy technique, sing in harmony and read choral music using modern pop songs that appeal to school-aged students. Our arrangements will be customized to fit the age and voice parts of the choral students. A recorded performance featuring professional and student musicians will serve as the culmination of each choral session.
Mini Mighty Maestros:
Students sing-a-long, dance and perform simple instrumental accompaniments to popular children songs including music from the fresh Beat Band, songs of Sesame Street and other Disney and Nickelodeon hits. Additionally, students are exposed to world music and classical orchestra pieces where they perform a variety of movements to the music and learn about the history of the composer. Basic music theory is taught through a variety of games and activities. Each day has a different theme, focusing on music from a different TV show or movie, as well as a different country. Students perform a short concert on the last day of camp.

Song Writing and Recording:
Students will have the opportunity to work with professional songwriters and producers to craft poetry into lyrics, develop melodic phrasing techniques, arrange parts and work to develop a musical identity. All staff songwriters are multi-instrumentalists, so no playing experience is required to compose a song. Students with playing experience may bring their own instrument to add to their composition.
Rock Band:
Students will be evaluated and placed in rock and pop groups according to age and ability and musical instruments Throughout the course of the session students learn to play musical parts on guitar bass drums and keyboard as well improve their skills on their individual instruments Singers will work with lyricists and vocal coaches to improve technique tone quality and how to create original melodies The class culminates with each group performing 2 to 3 songs as well as recording an original song using a portable recording set up in the classroom No experience is required to participate!
Rock Chorus:
We work with the students on learning popular music that is current and fun for them. They will explore vocalizing, vocal technique and breathing exercises to begin exploring the art of singing with our vocal coach. We will spend the time at the camp learning the music to 2 to 4 different songs throughout the week. Through learning the songs the students will explore harmonizing, melody, and solo singing. Each student will participate in the group song as a chorus, and will have their own solo within the song to be able to perform. In addition, we will work on performance skills, and add a movement component to the song. The camp will culminate in a performance for the parents at the end of the week.

This activity has been highly successful with residents with dementia, as well as assisted and independent living residents. Using music from the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's, residents perform rhythm patterns using a variety of hand held percussion instruments including shakers, maracas, triangles, hand drums and more. Residents do more than keep a steady beat to music; they are cognitively engaged, performing accompaniments for the songs.
