I became a para and went on to get my teaching degrees.Initially I received a BS in Human Services(This degree dealt with ethics, social work, counseling, and confidential issues) I felt these were issues as a teacher that would be beneficial. Prior to attending school at SUNY Old Westbury, I had already taught religious studies to first graders during my time at high school. There I had to help students with their reading and writing, as well as keep a calm and composed classroom setting. While attending SUNY Old Westbury I worked in the writing center tutoring students at all levels. Together we compiled our lessons into a book, and once a week each we taught a small group of students. One of the most interesting things about math, in my opinion, is how everyone can have different understandings of fundamentally similar concepts. One method may work for Student A but not Student B, so I aspire to teach methods that will reach both students. I engage and interact with my students a lot in order to properly gauge how my students are progressing and what I can do to further help them.
