While earning my degree in earth and atmospheric science I was a tutor to underclassmen at my university in the subjects of earth science and geography. I have a firm understanding of earth science, meteorology, geography, physics and geology. As a senior, I completed extensive research in 3 upper level classes, completing a 6 credit independent study class with an A as well as two other independent study classes with A's. I have always enjoyed working with young people. I take the time needed to assess each student's learning styles and I am well versed in what works for students of each type (visual, oral, kinesthetic and their subcategories). I am patient and use the student's strengths to help them overcome their weaknesses. I believe that a student can learn what ever is required of them if the teacher takes the time to work with the student. My education consists of a Bachelors of Arts degree in chemistry, with a minor in biology and significant field experience in academic research in both fields. My inaugural teaching experience was as an HEOP tutor for introductory physics. I have been a freelance tutor for organic chemistry for over a year, and have tutored Regents chemistry as well, and have volunteered my services to fellow students for two and a half years.
I prefer a “vertically integrated” teaching style. Science is a continuum, with complex topics being reducible to simple concepts. I will work with a student to break down difficult topics that are already problematic, and help them synthesize concepts into an integrated whole as new topics arise.

Before earning a BA in Biology at Skidmore College and after graduating high school, I took three years off to play hockey. Concurrently, I enrolled in classes at Mount Wachusett Community College in Massachusetts and tutored in the math department. I tutored students in algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and some calculus. At Skidmore I continued in math, taking calculus I, II, and III, and linear algebra before focusing my attention on molecular biology.
