I believe that all students deserve a chance to be successful, and my teaching goal is to find ways that allow them to be. I understand that success comes in many forms, and I believe even the littlest successes should be praised to help build up a child's academic attitude. I treat all students with respect and expect that they show me respect in return. I am extremely patient, positive and hard working. I love teaching, and hope that I can help those that I work with reach their full potentials.
In 2006 I attended Pacific Lutheran University earning my masters degree in educational leadership with endorsements in special education, reading, and elementary education. While it is my belief that all students have the ability to learn; I also understand that academics can be difficult. It is my job to support students who, for whatever reason, are having a difficult time in school, as well as provide extra support for students who want to get ahead. In the learning environments I provide, students are safe to ask questions, provide ideas and make mistakes while receiving respect and patience. While I support students in a positive manner by giving praise and constructive feedback, I also make sure that students are working hard and receiving authentic responses in a respectful manner.

I have found that tutoring sessions are most effective when they are fun! Many students find it difficult to stay focused, especially after a full school day. For this reason, I prefer to change tasks frequently and use a variety of fun games to switch up the pace of the session. Learning can be frustrating for many students when a particular subject does not come as naturally or easily as other subjects. Thus, I do my best to incorporate student's interests into reward systems and constantly give the student positive feedback about their progress to help motivate the student. I work hard to get to know the student and tailor tasks and activities to their particular learning style.

A Little Bit About Me...

To be a lifeguard, one must first learn to swim, then learn different techniques, then continue to refine those techniques to build up stamina and speed. The same is true of mathematics. First one learns number sense, then algebra skills, then a deeper understanding through practice, as well as new and more challenging problems. Taking a student from their current knowledge base to a much broader and deeper understanding is what I like most about teaching. Every student is different, so they often take different paths to gain a fuller comprehension. I believe any student can succeed if they are willing to work through this process of gradual learning, connecting new concepts to their current experiences.
