I have recently graduated from Virginia Tech where I majored in Biological Sciences. This included biology, physics, and chemistry as focus points. My tutoring experience has been volunteer work. Throughout my academic career I have always helped others, from explaining difficult concepts to peer reviewing papers in college. I have also been a substitute teacher at my local high school since 2007. I recently worked under a doctoral candidate on a research project about warblers. I believe that anyone can learn any subject if you give them the proper tools. Setting goals and meeting them is only part of the battle, Knowing what when wrong and how to fix it is the other half. Living with an LD gives me an appreciation of the time it can take to learn; and that not everyone can learn in the same way. I prefer a hands-on and organized teaching style where I can make connections to real world examples. However, I do know that each child is an individual and learns differently.
I am a graduate from Randolph College formally known as Randolph Macon Woman's College. Currently I am working on obtaining an additional degree in Chemistry. I have taken classes in advanced mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics. As a person labeled LD I understand and have developed techniques to learn material.
