Students generally perform better with hands-on practice. I provide multiple opportunities for hands-on and guided practice as time permits. Associate new concepts to familiar ones. Our memories are largely associative in nature. Therefore, providing connections from new concepts back to well established ones increases our retention and recall. This is especially important in building up understanding in mathematics. Provide relevant examples. A student who is actively enaged in the lesson will learn more.
For the past two years, I have been working as an adjunct instructor and tutor in mathematics and computer information systems for a local Community College. Education has always been extremely important to me. To me there is no greater feeling than finally grasping a difficult concept and I love helping someone else achieve that feeling. Consistently during grade school, high school, and college, other students came to me for help with their schoolwork and I enjoyed providing them with a new perspective, or recapping the teacher’s lecture.
