A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had an interest in tutoring, starting in Elementary school where I would leave during recess in the fourth and fifth grade to spend time in my past Kindergarten teacher's classroom. There I would read to students, reinforce the teachings lead by the teacher, and serve as a role model. During my middle school summers I would return to that classroom to provide aid for the summer school kindergarteners before they were able to enter the first grade. Upon entry into high school, I joined Project Understanding, a tutoring volunteer organization to serve children from low-income families who were falling behind in a classroom setting and needed some extra time and a different perspective to learn the material expected of them. My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : Elementary math, despite how hard it looks to some people, is really easy. It takes time and nurturing. It's easier once they start a habit of memorizing simple things.

Although, I'm still a high school student, I've helped many students in my class with understanding what they were taught. I've been told by a lot of my friends that I should become a teacher. I love teaching, and if it had a higher salary pay, that would be my career choice. I've been helping kids with math before I realized that I was helping them. I love it when they understand it and their face just lights up.
I like to take what they know, help them understand it a little more, then apply it. I walk them through different questions they encounter and then watch them try it for themselves. If they make a mistake, I help them understand what went wrong and how to fix it. I am very hands on and I like to reward them with encouraging comments.
