A Little Bit About Me...

I never set out to work with children but after I was hired to be a teacher assistant for young children with autism I can’t imagine doing anything else. I am a very patient person and I strive to bring a light hearted, fun approach to working with students. I believe that learning should be educational but at the same time fun and engaging. The biggest rewards for me personally have been the smallest breakthroughs when working with children especially those with special needs.
I have spent the last two years working with elementary age children with autism. I think it is more important to understand the student than to understand the material. Don't get me wrong - as a teacher I always re-educate myself to the material if need be - but I feel my real strength as an educator lies in finding a new way to teach the same concept. If a student is failing to learn, it is less often the material itself and more often the way it is being presented. Finding a new way is something I have practiced in school and at BOCES, and is my greatest strength as a teacher.
