I have spent the last two years working with elementary age children with autism. I have also spent a couple months during the spring working with culturally diverse children, some with special needs, in an after school program in Sydney Australia. I have experience working 1:1 with children with autism in a self-contained classroom. I have be trained and have a great deal of experience with TCI . Sine high school, I have worked with children in BOCES. However, I started college later in life, after children and marriage. I wanted to provide my children with an education that I couldn't afford since I knew nothing of grants in 1974. I started with my AA and did not stop until I achieved my MS. My education has taught me discipline, research, study habits, and critical thinking skills. I have tutored students K-12; in Language Arts, Reading, Literature, English, Parenting, Nutrition, Careers, and electives for 11 years. Each individual student has taught me something new.

A Little Bit About Me...

I think it is more important to understand the student than to understand the material. Don't get me wrong - as a teacher I always re-educate myself to the material if need be - but I feel my real strength as an educator lies in finding a new way to teach the same concept. If a student is failing to learn, it is less often the material itself and more often the way it is being presented. Finding a new way is something I have practiced in school and at BOCES, and is my greatest strength as a teacher.
I hold an English degree from a program that largely overlapped with Education - basically, I have studied teaching as a student at college.
