Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have been signing since 1994. Enrolled in college to receive an AA in American Sign Language, and will be continuing my education towards a Sign Language Interpreter Certification.

I try to keep away from the Sign Language books, It's hard to learn from a cartoon drawing or a picture with arrows showing the direction to move your hands. Sign Language can be a fun language to learn, you never know, the next person you bump into may be deaf. And wouldn't it be nice to be able to communicate with them?
I started signing in 1994 when I met a deaf woman and her friend at my job. A few days later she came back and handed me a "Sign Language for Beginners" book. After many years of Deaf Clubs, Deaf Functions, and friends. Since 2003 I have been helping any deaf/hearing impaired people when they need help with communicating with what they call "Hearing" people. The deaf culture is very different and very interesting. I am now enrolled in college to get my degree in American Sign Language, then to get certified as a Sign Language Interpreter.

I am a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, with experience tutoring at Tennessee Temple University, as well as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, in various topics, including biodiversity, mathematics (up to pre-calculus), history, and American Sign Language. I continue to study in my personal time as many topics as possible, with the belief that a good tutor is firstly a good student.
I allow my teaching style to mold itself to each individual student, finding methods of communicating the information that best suit the learning style of my student. I favor a holistic approach to learning, believing that education should be of the whole person. I have always wanted to work with children since I was in High School. It started when I was in the 11th grade and I would go to a daycare and tutor after school age children. In 2006 I enrolled in AmeriCorps and did afterschool tutoring at the PAL center. I am currently go to an elementary school to volunterr with ESOL children.
