Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects! Hello! My name is Ashley, and I am a dedicated special education teacher with six years of experience working in a 3rd–5th grade Special Day Class (SDC) in San Francisco. I specialize in supporting students with extensive support needs, including students with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, speech and language impairments, orthopedic impairments, and other learning differences. I have extensive experience working with both verbal and nonverbal students, as well as students who exhibit challenging behaviors, and I pride myself on meeting each learner exactly where they are. My classroom experience has given me a deep understanding of how to adapt instruction, build trust, and create a safe, structured environment where students can grow academically and emotionally.
As a tutor, my approach is patient, strengths-based, and highly individualized. I am especially passionate about literacy development and functional mathematics, and I focus on helping students build practical, meaningful skills they can use in daily life. I believe progress happens when learning feels accessible and encouraging, so I break concepts down into manageable steps, use visual supports and hands-on strategies, and celebrate every success along the way. Whether your child needs academic support, skill reinforcement, or confidence building, my goal is to support both the student and their family with compassion, consistency, and clear communication.
