My comments on tutoring Guitar : I've been a guitarist for about 5 years.

I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the most, and I ended up getting so much more out of the course. I figure that, if a student likes the teacher, he or she will pay more attention and have a deeper respect for the teacher. The teacher then can use this trust to push the student a little more, intellectually. I find that is what works best for me.
I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. I begin by first gaining an understanding of what their knowledge and perceptions are on a subject so I know their level of comprehension. Afterward, I like to illustrate the main parts as they relate to the whole so the student can get a full grasp of how each component fits into the big picture. From there we delve deeper into the details of the individual pieces.
Towards the end of my college career I assisted in "Community New Start" in Austin, TX which was a mentor program assisting high school children in under-privileged districts.
