My comments on tutoring Guitar : I've been a guitarist for about 5 years.

I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the exams, allowing them to secure a 3.0 or higher in the course. I also had to regular help my classmates out with more complex problems in Physics. I was not so much tutoring as working together with them on the homework, but still, it involved clear explanation and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter.
I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the ... read more

My comments on tutoring Guitar : Currently pursuing a Masters at University of Texas at Austin

Andrew Rohwedder is an award winning guitarist. He graduated with honors at Arizona State University, studying classical guitar at the Herberger College of Design and the Arts. Andrew began his guitar studies at age 11, and has loved it since been given his first guitar. He has made a commitment to the musical arts, and plans to pursue a career in concert performance. In the meantime, Andrew hopes to help others gain this passion, or help them simply enjoy playing the instrument in their leisure time. Although primarily studying classical, he is more than capable to teach the more popular styles of music, as he has played in many bands in the past.

More About This Tutor...

I take a servant leadership, customer-oriented approach to my responsibilities. I routinely try to answer the following question: What can I do to help students achieve their goals? For research papers, I encouraged students to pursue their own interests, such as a subject related to their major, in order to give them a better opportunity to enjoy the research process as opposed to merely fulfilling an exercise requirement.
From January 2006 through August 2008, I worked part-time as a freshman composition instructor, writing lab tutor, and teaching assistant for the English department at UNT. As an instructor, I taught two classes per long semester and one, intensive summer session. During the fall semesters, I taught Composition I, which introduced students to a variety of writing concepts, such as the personal essay and the visual text. The students wrote five papers, thre ... read more

Certified Interpreter tutors ASL

I am fluent in ASL from my years attending Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. I dream in sign. Worked as an interpreter since 2005. My studies in linguistics (presented at Harvard's first Linguistics conference in 2003) give me particular insight into the structure of the language and make it easy for me to identify and explain mistakes, so that you can see the bigger picture.
My goal as a tutor is to figure out what's missing that, if you had it, would make all the difference. That's the reason you pay for an instructor instead of just reading a book or watching a video. My job is to see where you are and where you are aiming for, then plot the path and light your way. My expertise is in figuring out how to get you to get it, and ultimately to get you to a point where you don't need me any more. I've learned how to do this through teaching individuals and in workshop setting ... read more

I have been playing the guitar for over 13 years. I have been in a number of bands and took lessons regularly for 7 years from a very accomplished Jazz musician in Wichita Kansas named Randy Zellers. I can play a wide variety of styles and can play with any tempo, including the incredibly fast pace of some guitar styles. I have composed a countless number of songs on guitar and have learned in a traditional sense and in a self taught sense as well.
Very laid back and encouraging to the student. Wanting to make it as fun as possible while providing the right amount of challenge to ensure growth as a playerq

I begin by first gaining an understanding of what their knowledge and perceptions are on a subject so I know their level of comprehension. Afterward, I like to illustrate the main parts as they relate to the whole so the student can get a full grasp of how each component fits into the big picture. From there we delve deeper into the details of the individual pieces.
Towards the end of my college career I assisted in "Community New Start" in Austin, TX which was a mentor program assisting high school children in under-privileged districts. I assisted with basic math and English material. A few months later a group of us from the University of Texas assisted in the "Reagan High School" project, where the district was considering closing the school down due to failing TAKS scores, mainly in reading comprehension and math. This entailed going into classrooms and helping teachers w ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from UT Austin with a BS physics and BA mathematics. I still study both subjects independently to be ready for graduate school. I have held a job in both IT and Engineering where I have used my skills to mentor others on these topics. I have spoken spanish since I started speaking and CLEP'd out of Spanish IV at UT Austin with an A to meet the language requirements. I have been playing guitar since 1987. I used to play in a band from 1991 - 1995 and learned to read and write music from when I played the alto saxophone in H.S. marching band.
I have taught problem solving to many friends and family. I like to explain the foundations of what they're trying to learn and most importantly explain to them why they're learning it. Once this is done, I bring the whole subject together in the end so that they may see what pieces of the puzzle they were missing. In mathematic ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Attitude is the biggest obstacle when trying to learn something new. I try to make the learning process as fun and interesting as possible. When a student is struggling, I believe it is vital to build their confidence towards success. It is important to not make them feel overwhelmed, but to show them how to conquer a problem step by step. I can help provide the tools that your child needs to realize his/her ability.
While earning my BA in economics from The University of Texas, I also completed all my pre-med courses. This has provided me with a strong background in mathematics, social sciences, and natural sciences. I have always had a strong aptitude for integrating concepts from different disciplines and exploring how they relate to one another. This skill is useful when explaining new ideas to other students in terms that they can relate to.
