My comments on tutoring Calculus II : I recently took this course, so I have a fresh perspective on the material as a student.

I do not consider myself a teacher but a helper. In my experience, the Socratic method in which I pose probing questions that unlock the student's knowledge is the strongest approach. A student's retention of the material is strongest when the student can teach it, and that's what I aim for. I break down any material the student doesn't understand into terms that are easier to comprehend. Preparedness is expected on the part of the student. I am not a substitute for independent study, and the sessions should not consist of doing homework. I am a resource best used when students have an understanding of what they do need help with.

Teaching has become part of a daily process in my life. I believe that any average student with a good and experienced teacher can equally perform as much as the best student in any field. My patience, advanced education and wealth of experience in teaching chemistry have helped me to put joy in the smiles of many students over the years. I love working with children. I especially love teaching them about science and mathematics because I find these subjects so interesting. There are few things more rewarding then seeing it all "click." I like to use diagrams and real life situations to explain subjects. Breaking things down into laymen's terms and reducing intimidation by putting things simply helps most students to grasp difficult topics. I'm a pretty good artist and like drawing diagrams. A Little Bit About Me...

For 1:1 tutoring my teaching style will vary depending on the individual's needs and the topic covered. I try to work at the student’s learning pace in an effort to allow the student time to comprehend and retain what is covered within the session. I am not interested in helping others learn what I know (and love) to find out later that I was "too fast" for them to use the information after the session. Covering any topic outside their natural pace is a complete waste of everyone's time.
I graduated with a 4-year degree in Mech. Eng. in 1997. I was very successful for the next 12 years, in various positions. In 2009, I changed to the IT field.
