I have taught at various private schools and childcare centers, implementing various musical styles and programs. I'm currently operating a music studio. I think it takes a lot for one teacher to reach all of types of students who are all at different levels of interest in the subject being taught as well as at different levels of understanding. However, I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to give them all equal opportunity to learn. It is not just about grades and assignments, that is just the means to an end, but it is about learning. In order for the students to learn, the teacher needs to be passionate about the students as well as the subject that is being taught. That will instill in the students a desire to learn and understand. In having a science background, I have not only learned laboratory skills and reasoning skills, but I have learned how to increase efficiency, communicate in a clear manner, and write in a way that is direct and clear. I enjoy learning, and I instill that passion into my students as best I can.

Every child can learn but since everyone is different, a different approach is needed to ensure the information and abstract concepts are fully understood. Auditory learners like myself would learn best from an entertaining lecture followed by auditory questions designed for the learner to discover for him or herself what it is they were looking for with myself as a guide. Visual learners would learn best by a movie or re-enactment, and some reading. Kinesthetic learners would need a hands on experience to get a better understanding. In all cases students will realize that they themselves can figure out for themselves the 'hows' and 'whys' of history and show me by answering some questions and re-teaching it to me. My teaching style is a very flexible style. I understand that everyone has a different method for learning and I have to adapt in order for the student to learn. Since I've mostly dealt with music for teaching experience, I'll refer to that area of expertise to illustrate my methods. I usually start off with ear training exercises because as a musician this is a must have skill. Then we go over basic aspects of music such as rhythm or basic chords. Eventually, after enough has been learned, I make the class more challenging and try to get the student to think in many different ways and allow them to be flexible with their minds as well. I am a musician and teacher at heart and within the past two years I have found a way to combine those two passions into the most rewarding job I've ever had.
