My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I am currently tutoring a student who will be in 4th grade. I'm teaching him various strategies to help him understand, primarily, multiplication and division, but also other important topics, such as telling time and skip counting. He makes a little bit of progress every day towards understanding the concepts, as well as memorizing his basic facts.

I have been tutoring students for about 5 years. I started when I was a junior in high school. My first experiences tutoring were through the National Honor Society. I volunteered after school once or twice per week and I tutored mainly ESL students in Math and English. My senior year of high school and throughout the time I was in college, I tutored a high school student who had educational and developmental deficits. He needed help in all of his core classes from 8th grade through 12th grade. I tutored him in Pre-Algebra through Algebra II, History, Science, and English. I also tutored at Columbia Heights High School for 6 months, conducting tutorials for groups of 6-7 students. I have taught and tutored College level Economics, Statistics, Management, and Several Agricultural Economics courses for over twenty years in six different universities and colleges in Africa and in the United States. I also have three years experience of tutoring elementary and high school maths in the US.
At college level, I lecture, write on the chalk board, give handouts, give and grade class and home assignments, and provide where necessary, one on one tutoring supported with several examples. I have always had a passion for helping others learn. In high school I tutored students from different schools in math. After graduating with two bachelor's degrees from the University of Minnesota I began working full time as a financial analyst for Target Corporation. At the same time, I started teaching part time at a learning center. In the past three years I have been able to help students of all ages from first grade through college.
