I have enjoyed the personal gratification of tutoring since high school. Since I was 15 years old, I have shared my knowledge and love of mathematics with people of all ages. I attended Spelman College and Georgia Institute of Technology, where I received my Bachelor of Science in both Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. I also tutored my peers at these institutions. My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : Passed virtual testing.

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : I specialize in math and science preparation. The first thing I do is find out the strong/weak areas of the student and focus on the areas that need the most improvement. I also use sample tests and test questions.

Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style. The one thing that I observed about the learning process, is that a person quickly grasps a concept if he/she is interested, or the topic is thoughtful and challenges the wit of a person and lastly, a person is very comfortable in learning through his/her friends. Nobody is stupid not to grasp a concept. It is the methodology, technique and feeling of comfort and interest, that is required. Hence I try to be affable and was more involved. A picturization or a real life example is more likely to fit in a person's mind. I used this technique and was very successful. I think the best way to teach is to show students how they can break down problems and find answers to questions that may, at first glance, seem overwhelming. I have yet to meet someone who is incapable of grasping a subject, and I am able to stay calm and remain patient as students begin to expand their knowledge in areas that are new to them. I attended Oakland University and earned a BS in Biology in 2008. As a high school student I tutored as part of the National Honor Society for 2 years. I tutored elementary and middle school students in group settings after school. I helped them with all subjects. After graduating from Michigan State University I have been tutoring privately in college level mathematics. I also attended a semester of Medical School and at the end of the semester I was selected to be a teaching assistant for Anatomy.
