My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : Passed virtual testing.

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.
I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects ... read more

Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. I will implement practices and materials I think will fit the student's profile. I feel a teacher wears many hats and you must be prepared to wear a different one any day.

My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style. I can tutor through examples, visually drawing concepts, talking, describing the reasons behind a concept, and most importantly, I can relate almost every subject to daily life.
I began officially tutoring four years ago, starting up a private tutoring business. Through it, I have taught ages 5 through 55 in nearly all subjects, including mathematics, science, physics, ACT, and English. I also have tutored publicly at Oakland University for one year, where I earned my tutoring certification (level 1).

I believe that all children all capable of learning and that each one learns in their own way. The basis behind successful teaching is to find what motivates them and relate that to the subject. I'm a patient teacher but I also believe in being a challenging teacher. Setting the bar high and providing assistance along the way is how I excelled in school and I believe it can be used for other children as well.

I initially ask the client their preferred method of learning. If they are unsure, I try different approaches in an effort to find one that fits. I find that many people lack confidence, particularly in math. I try to build confidence in the student so that he or she will have faith in their learning ability, both now and in the future.
I developed an interest in tutoring during the beginning of my sophomore year of college, when the math department needed calculus tutors. Although I was not a math major at the time, I enjoyed calculus and decided to apply. Along with tutoring college students, I volunteered at Girls’ Inc to tutor young girls in junior high with numerous subjects. After earning my BA in mathematics, I worked at the learning center of another university tutoring undergrads in various math classes. Most recently, I worked at a high school tutoring 9th-12th gra ... read more

As a recent college graduate, the stress, confusion, and (ultimately) joy involved in the attempt to master new subjects are fresh in my memory. While nothing can replace experience, I believe that being young provides me with an edge over those older than me when it comes to connecting with students. I have tutored a wide range of students, ranging from an at-risk 5th grader to high school algebra students, to college sophomores. While the subject matter and level of sophistication certainly varies between students, the approach is generally the same. By maintaining a professional and caring attitude with my students, and giving them that little push when they need it, anyone is able to succeed academically.
I think the best way to teach is to show students how they can break down problems and find answers to questions that may, at first glance, seem overwhelming. I have yet ... read more

I believe the differences in the discovery process in each individual arouses creativity in the way problems are reasoned through which inspires each student intrinsically. A Little Bit About Me...

I have over six years of professional experience as an educator. In my career as an educator, I have worked with students ranging from young English language learners in central Mexico to recent high school graduates enrolled in a large urban university to international business and engineering professionals. I completed my multiple subjects credential in December, 2007, and hold endorsements in English and Spanish; I am also authorized to work with English language learners.
As a tutor, I am able to focus completely on an individual's learning needs. I begin a tutoring relationship by having students perform a series of diagnostic activities, and then tell me about their strengths and weaknesses as learners, as well as their hopes and expectations for the tutoring sessions. With that information, I am better able to design learning activities that address students' learning ne ... read more
