My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : Passed virtual testing.

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have tutored for the Sickle Cell Organization in 2001, helping students catch up numerous missed assignments. I tutor when the opportunity presents itself. Last Summer-Fall I assisted a nursing student in Speech and helped with two research papers. More recently (Oct.2009-Jan.2010), I worked tutoring students grade 2-10. My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : I specialize in math and science preparation. The first thing I do is find out the strong/weak areas of the student and focus on the areas that need the most improvement. I also use sample tests and test questions.

Adjusts accordingly with the needs of the student.

Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style. I think the best way to teach is to show students how they can break down problems and find answers to questions that may, at first glance, seem overwhelming. I have yet to meet someone who is incapable of grasping a subject, and I am able to stay calm and remain patient as students begin to expand their knowledge in areas that are new to them.
