I have worked as an elementary school teacher for 7 years. I have been fortunate enough to teach grades 1, 2, 3, and 4. In my experience I have found that children build confidence through small successes. My philosophy is to set maintainable goals allowing students to meet them frequently building confidence and motivation.
I am structured yet kind. Kids need to feel a connection to their teacher in order to give 100%. I work a great deal on building community in my classroom and allowing kids to appreciate the diversity among themselves. Not all kids are going to excel in all areas. They need to value what they are really good at and share that with their peers. This also creates miniature "experts" which makes all kids feel good. Once a child feels successful; in one area it encourages them to tackle something they are less comfortable with.

My comments on tutoring Study Skills : I have a BA in English. Was also a Nanny helping children with study skills.

While in College I was a part time nanny for a single Mom with twins. I started taking care of the twins when they were 2 and continued until they were almost 4. I was an assistant teacher part time at little playmates preschool daycare. During my time there I worked with the 2 and 3 year old class and the 4 and 5 year old class. A Little Bit About Me...

I am an experienced classroom teacher and have been involved in education since I was 18 years old. I have worked supervising general chemistry teaching labs as well as an organic chemistry TA.
