I studied creative writing at the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville SC. There I studied poetry, play writing, grammar, editing, fiction, and creative nonfiction. I won two national scholastic writing awards for my writing. I also studied at Rice University which is a highly selective university in Houston Texas. I majored in sociology and also took many intensive English classes. While a student at Rice, I tutored several of my peers in both sociology and english. I also tutored several international students who needed assistance drafting essays in english. I have also provided assistance to elementary and middle school students in mathematics, science, history, the arts, and english.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began tutoring Spanish as an undergraduate twenty-five years ago. In college, graduate school and as a professor I wrote literary analyses in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Many of these papers were written from historical, sociological or psychoanalytic perspectives. I taught all levels of undergraduate Spanish, and some graduate courses. I have taught English as a second language. I have basic vocabuary skills in Arabic, Russian and French and can ask and answer basic questions in Russian and French. I also have a knowledge of the written alphabet in Russian.
My teaching style for Spanish is proficiency-based, culture-based and student-centered. My college students master basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar through writing grocery lists, ordering from a menu, describing how they are feeling, and even decorating skull cookies for the Day of the Dead. I love to teach young children. I also love to teach growing adults as well and think its best for a relaxing teaching style. I use games and rhymes to help the children stay focus and have fun while tutoring.
As a college graduate, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of education. I studied different types of literature from women's, middle eastern, and african american as well. I also have four years of speaking spanish and learning the offical lanuage in college and very good at conversational spanish as well.
