I love to work with students of all ages. I am a patient teacher and try to tailor my teaching style to the progress of my student. I prefer to promote understanding through the use of work sheets, tutorials, and real world examples, rather then simply relying on memorization. I began my teaching career by completing a two year course of study in Early Childhood and then worked as both a teacher and as a Director at a Parent Cooperative Day School until my own children were in Middle School. At this point I returned to College and graduated with a BS in Psychology and a minor in English. I continued on and received a NC teaching license from UNCG. I found my tutoring skills when my High School aged son was home bound by an illness and I home schooled him for most of his High School Years. As a college graduate, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of education. I studied different types of literature from women's, middle eastern, and african american as well. I also have four years of speaking spanish and learning the offical lanuage in college and very good at conversational spanish as well. I have spent two years tutoring children in english grammar, basic algebra, and sentence structure, as well as spanish.
I love to teach young children. I also love to teach growing adults as well and think its best for a relaxing teaching style. I use games and rhymes to help the children stay focus and have fun while tutoring.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style for Spanish is proficiency-based, culture-based and student-centered. My college students master basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar through writing grocery lists, ordering from a menu, describing how they are feeling, and even decorating skull cookies for the Day of the Dead. On a similar note, I teach children by discovering and exploring Spanish with them. Together we decorate Day of the Dead cookies, create and label picture posters, and play games in Spanish to practice vocabulary. Each activity always targets the child's strongest learning styles and their comfort zones.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that first and foremost, teachers should inspire students to not only live up to their own potential, but to exceed their expectations and realize that they can meet and surpass any goal they set for themselves. I encourage students to take risks, knowing that I am behind them being fully supportive. My teaching style varies depending on what student I am teaching. I enjoy tailoring lessons to the specific child. Being able to do this is, in my opinion, one of the biggest advantages of working in a one-on-one setting. I have noticed over the years that many students can identify their specific needs when it comes to learning. I see myself as a facilitator in helping students to learn while keeping in mind the different learning styles: visual, aural, kinesthetic. I combine discipline with a sense of humor (which I think is essential especially when students become anxious about a new class or a subject in which they have difficulty). I act as a guide as well as provider of information to students.
