Along with my passion for learning and my commitment to excellence, my love for teaching naturally overflows in tutoring. In my first linguistics class, I was approached by the teacher and asked to tutor while taking the class! I have since worked as a Teacher's Assistant for Linguistics, an ESL tutor with Journey's End Refugee Services, and a Humanities instructor and tutor in Lima, Peru. I lived and worked in Lima for three years and have native command of Spanish pronunciation, grammar and syntax. I have never received a grade below "A" on any written assignment throughout my college career.
I believe that learning should be fun! My goal as a tutor is not only to help students understand and retain information, but also to develop their learning abilities in ways that will equip them throughout their lifetime learning experience. I am focused on helping learners to discover their ... read more

I believe in letting the child set the pace when it comes to private tutoring. I would listen to child to learn what truly interests them and inspires them. I would then use this is my lessons so they enjoy the learning process. Children enjoy learning anything when it is taught in the appropriate way. I learned this very quickly teaching English to French elementary age students.
I know what it takes to teach and learn a foreign language because I am fluent in French. I was inspired by watching the great teachers that I had in high school and college. I have taught English as a second language, so I have classroom experience to add to my general knowledge of the language and culture.

My teaching style for Spanish is proficiency-based, culture-based and student-centered. My college students master basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar through writing grocery lists, ordering from a menu, describing how they are feeling, and even decorating skull cookies for the Day of the Dead. On a similar note, I teach children by discovering and exploring Spanish with them. Together we decorate Day of the Dead cookies, create and label picture posters, and play games in Spanish to practice vocabulary. Each activity always targets the child's strongest learning styles and their comfort zones.
I began tutoring Spanish as an undergraduate twenty-five years ago. In college, graduate school and as a professor I wrote literary analyses in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Many of these papers were written from historical, sociological or psychoanalytic perspectives. I taught all leve ... read more

I have a BA in Theatre Arts, a minor in Dance, and have received a Montessori Certification from NAMC. However, I learned the fundamentals of teaching (being on time, prepared, patient, and encouraging) from my first job as a dance teacher while I was still in high school. After University, I taught ESL in Korea for three years, as well as developed curriculum for a set of nationwide schools. In addition to that, I tutored students privately outside of the classroom. Throughout my teaching experience, I interacted with a wide range of students with varying abilities. This, coupled with my education, has enabled me to become an experienced, creative, and innovative teacher.
I believe that first and foremost, teachers should inspire students to not only live up to their own potential, but to exceed their expectations and realize that they can meet and surpass any goal they set for th ... read more
