My style is very visual with a lot of repetition and practice.
I have over 15 years experience in many areas of teaching from Adult Sign Language classes to Pre-kindergarten hearing. I have taught both hearing elementary students and deaf students of all ages. I have also taught overseas. I was a certified ASL interpreter until last year when my certification expired. I am currently teaching in an International program for students ages 13 to 22.

Sine high school, I have worked with children in BOCES. However, I started college later in life, after children and marriage. I wanted to provide my children with an education that I couldn't afford since I knew nothing of grants in 1974. I started with my AA and did not stop until I achieved my MS. I hold an English degree from a program that largely overlapped with Education - basically, I have studied teaching as a student at college. On the other end of the spectrum, I have been a substitute educator for Capital Region BOCES for 3 years, working with teaching professionals on short-term assignments. Through this experience I believe I have gathered a good deal of craft in the area of special-needs learning.
I think it is more important to understand the student than to understand the material. Don't get me wrong - as a teacher I always re-educate myself to the material if need be - but I feel my real strength as an educator lies in finding a new way to teach the same concept.
