As a bachelor's student in English, I tutored students at Sonoma State Univeristy's writing center for two years. I have now completed all of the coursework for my Masters, and my graduate committee is currently reviewing my Thesis. I love teaching students who like to learn. I am pursuing a career as an English Teacher at the college level, and I'll be looking for college positions as soon as my Masters Thesis is reviewed and my graduation paperwork goes through.

I believe that whenever I'm working with a student they have the capacity to learn and internalize the material. I believe that the student can learn the material. My method of mathematical and scientific instruction is based off the Polya style of teaching where the instructor guides their students by questions and reviewing the known information. Thus the student's questions drive the student towards the answer desired. I find great personal reward when working with students. After explaining information and working on helping a student understand the material there's sometimes that moment when you can watch the student go from not knowing what's going on to sudden understanding. I have twenty-five years of experience teaching religious subject matter(and the Bible)in smaller church settings. Since completing my formal degree training I have worked in several capacities in the field of education. I taught inner-city young adults in Washington, D.C. in all GED subjects. I worked as a Guidance Counselor and Education Services Officer for the Army for eight years. In the past two years I have tutored under the auspices of Tacoma Community College in all GED subjects. Prior to my work with TCC I tutored in the Kid Reach program for three years. I try to match my own teaching style with the learning style of the student with whom I am working, paying particular attention to language and vocabulary usage. During my studies at USU I worked at Adams Elementary both as a Teachers Aid as well as a Mentor during the After School Program. I worked one-on-one as well as in groups of students grade k-5. This position was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable that I've had and would love to continue. I have also taught American Sign Language at the University in their ASL Labs for a year.
