I believe that whenever I'm working with a student they have the capacity to learn and internalize the material. I believe that the student can learn the material. My method of mathematical and scientific instruction is based off the Polya style of teaching where the instructor guides their students by questions and reviewing the known information. Thus the student's questions drive the student towards the answer desired. I find great personal reward when working with students. After explaining information and working on helping a student understand the material there's sometimes that moment when you can watch the student go from not knowing what's going on to sudden understanding. It is my experience that an instructor delivers more learning when a student has an interest in the subject. "Inspire rather than require," has far greater efficacy in delivering information. I tend to make it fun, interesting and encourage student participation and feedback. Reward, a basic human desire, engenders craving for learning. As each individual’s qualities are unique, I try to determine if one is a visual, auditory or tactile learner. Analogies often make good teaching aids. For example, if the subject were human circulatory systems, shining a light through a leaf reveals veins similar to our own and is more apt to draw the student into the subject. Though my primary study has been of a religious nature, I am very skilled in the other subjects of a quality educational foundation, as well. I am especially gifted at math as I scored a 730 in math on my SAT's. In 2003 I worked at Cedarcrest High School in Duvall as Special Education Assistant tutoring students with ADD and ADHD. A Little Bit About Me...

It is my considered opinion that there are many styles of teaching that can work effectively with students. Generally, I feel that it is best to adapt the style of teaching to the personality, interest, and capability of the student. My preference is working with teens and young adults, with whom I find that a style that guides them to find the answers for themselves is of greatest advantage. To do this, I tend to patiently guide students with a series of questions, only "jumping in" with information when they begin to appear to have reached a point of frustrated impasse.

I try to match my own teaching style with the learning style of the student with whom I am working, paying particular attention to language and vocabulary usage. I also strive to emulate my favorite math teacher's ability to think out loud in teaching any kind of problem solving task.
Since completing my formal degree training I have worked in several capacities in the field of education. I taught inner-city young adults in Washington, D.C. in all GED subjects. A Little Bit About Me...

During my studies at USU I worked at Adams Elementary both as a Teachers Aid as well as a Mentor during the After School Program. I worked one-on-one as well as in groups of students grade k-5. This position was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable that I've had and would love to continue. I have also taught American Sign Language at the University in their ASL Labs for a year.
Everyone has the ability to learn but not everyone has the same ability. Most people are visual or tactile learners whereas most teachers, in my experience, use verbal/aural instruction methods.
