Zaven Parsamyan is a native of Yerevan, Armenia. He began his piano studies at age six under Yakov Zargarian and Ivan Meliksetian at the Tchaikovsky School of Music for gifted children in Yerevan. After his graduation from the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan he was named professor of that school and later, vice-rector of its branch in Spain. Since his student years, Mr. Parsamyan has been performing solo and with orchestra, teaching extensively throughout Armenia, Russia and Western Europe. While at Vassar during my senior year, I was employed by the music department as the music history intern. In this position, I was expected to instruct students enrolled in the current music history course once a week in new material as dictated by the professor. In order to prepare for this, I met with the professor prior, but often I was given freedom to design the lesson on my own. I also completed a correlate sequence in medieval/Renaissance studies, and took an array of history, art history, religion, gender studies, and English classes in addition to my required music courses. Being able to write well was crucial to succeeding in these, and I was able to develop confidence and aptitude in writing recognized by my professors.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been performing since i was a child. Attended Julliard school of music, City colege of NY. Published two albums of my own and has recorded with a host of astist as a sideman. I am a multi-instrumentalist playing piano,bass(electric and acoustic), all percussions,composer and arranger. I have earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in music performance
I love teaching students of all ages. It is very satisfying to see their eyes light up when they realize they got it. One method i use is to teach the the music that they love and apply the theory and technique to it, and gradually introduce them to more challenging works. I can improvise at a moments notice to help get the lesson across, even if it means focusing on one task at a time. My goal is to make the learning experience as pleasant as possible.
