I have many ways of teaching. I like to make the experience rewarding, fun and educational. As I continue to work with others I find their strengths and weaknesses and do the best I can to make the experience fun and as stress free as possible. I know that it can be tough learning new subjects, however, if you put your mind to it, there is always a way. I use games, activities and also outside projects to learn as much as possible. When teaching a math lesson I begin by going over skills already mastered that lead to the lesson at hand. After teaching the new material I then have the student try a similar problem while I watch. If necessary I coach them along, pointing out any problem areas. Then I require the student to try more of the same type of problems until he or she has mastered the new material. It's very important to me that the student understand what he or she is doing and why it works. In other words, I don't just teach them how to do individual problems. I have enjoyed teaching in private schools of and on for the last 22 years. I participated in ROTC and majored in Math and Physics at the University of Colorado. After college, I joined the Air Force and worked in the airfield operations career field. After two years, I was chosen to become an instructor, where I fell in love with teaching. After separating from the military, I substitute taught for a year, primarily focusing on high school math.
