I am currently a general music teacher at Samsula Academy, an elementary school in New Smyrna Beach, FL. I teach general music classes to students in grades K-5, as well as chorus and band. I received my Bachelor's degree from Marywood University in Scranton, PA and began my Master's studies at University of Central Florida. I currently aspire to study Irish traditional music in Ireland in the near future, and would continue to offer online tutoring services during those studies. I believe in multiple intelligences and thus, I see that students always have the potential to succeed through many different ways. And by tapping his/her learning style, a good teacher will definitely be able to help him grow and grasp as much knowledge as he wishes to achieve. I consider myself a patient and open minded educator; creative and resourceful so as not to look only on the sole box of a four-sided classroom as the only tool to learn. With imagination and constructivism, education would be very fulfilling to any individual who seeks to learn.

As a counselor and a teacher, I've encountered students who learn best visually, students who are sight impaired, those with learning disabiliies, students who come from solid homes, and students who come from broken or dysfunctional homes. I feel strongly that it is my responsibility to meet the needs of all the students I tutor.
My philosophy of education is derived from my personal experience being both a learner and a teacher. I strongly believe that all students have the ablity and the desire to learn. I feel that it is a teacher's resonsibility to make sure that each and every student is given the opportunity to learn, and given the resources to satisfy that desire.

I like to believe that anyone can learn and understand anything. All it takes is a good teacher and effort. I like to work through a similar problem to the one the student is having a hard time with. Once he or she understands the similar problem, I then ask them to do their problem. If they still have trouble I refer back to the similar problem. Once they have correctly done their problem, we do another problem just like it. We repeat this process until they understand how to do the problems and better yet, understand the concepts and why you do certain things in a particular order to get the correct solution.

To me teaching is about solving puzzles. Each student needs different devices or strategies to learn at their full potential. This is why I believe in experimenting with how class or a learning session is conducted. I pride myself on my courage to try something new and original in order to reach a student, even if it means failing; but from that failure I still learn. I feel the most important thing to teaching is to make a connection with the individual person - not just the student.
I recently completed my education to be a communication and English educator at the University of Minnesota - Duluth. Through the program I spent a year as an apprentice at a middle school and high school. At these locations I not only observed, but also conducted the classroom a day each week. Also at this time I spent a day tutoring a low functioning reader one-on-one for the entire semester. ... read more

Each person is unique in every way including the learning style that is most advantageous. Some people learn by practical, hands-on experience or through academic lectures and texts. Others require a mixture of the two methods. As a Department of Corrections teacher, very often I tried several learning methods to help one particular student understand the topic. At times, I used non-traditional classroom methods to convey the concept successfully to the student. Most times, the students enjoyed themselves with my demonstrations. Typically, I find that presenting the topic information in a non-traditional classroom way, as in making it entertaining and practical, students learn more and more easily. They are also not aware that they are learning. In addition, during demonstrations, students learned proper social interaction. After the demonstration, students learned how to apply ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a college senior, I have accumulated countless hours towards tutoring and mentoring those in need. Whether it's Pre-K, Elementary, Junior High, High School and College students, I spend a great part of my life not just accomplishing goals, but taking the time to extend a hand and bringing those once behind me to the forefront. I have grown to learn that the right amount of disciplne and nurturing go further than a full dose of either. The subjects I mostly excel in are mathematics, psychology, English, reading, and the Arts. I feel that the well-rounded education that I have received makes me versatile in the educational system as a multi-threat to the decline in graduation rates.
I find great joy in watching a child progress in their education. All children are capable of learning at their own pace, and through repetition. Your child will find success and ease in their academic ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I spent much time in college working with local teachers and tutoring their students. Upon graduation, I spent a year teaching 4th grade in a private school. In Florida, I continued teaching in a private setting, which was unique as it provided enriching education opportunities year-round. Here I developed my philosophy of education through instructing multi-age classrooms, developing and tailoring curriculum, and participating in entry-level administrative duties. In my recent Public Charter School experience, I instructed multi-grade and single-grade classes, continued tutoring, served on the REA Executive Board, functioned as the school-wide Testing Coordinator, and was an Assistant Principal Trainee.
My goal as a teacher is to meet the individual needs of students, teaching them “how” to learn, and guiding them towards their full potential as learners and citizens. I strive ... read more
