As a Special Education teacher at heart, I firmly believe that education needs to be guided by the student. I may have a lesson to teach but I am constantly changing the lesson depending on the individual student. I believe that learning should be a fun experience that is according the the learners pace.
I have been teaching since I was young. I have tutored students since the age of 14 and I have taught students from ages 3 to 18 years old. I have been teaching in the Texas public school system for the last 4 years and I have loved every minute of it! I have taught all grades from Kindergarten to 5th as a special education inclusion teacher. As an inclusion teachers I have been able to teach grade level content to students who understand it but need for it to be taught in a different way. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a seasoned veteran in Education. I taught for 28 years, and was a school counselor for 7 years. For the past 2 1/2 years I have been a substitute teacher, tutor for 5th graders, and part-time counselor for PreK - 5th grade at different Elementary schools in Corpus Christi, TX. I also taught Study Skills, Test Preparation Skills, and Organizational Skills to my students.
I am Special Education Certified, and know how to work with students with different disabilities. This includes ADHD/ADD problems, Dyslexia, Reading comprehension, Autism, and many others. My daughter is Autistic, has a learning disability, and is Bi-Polar, so I have personal experience with people with disabilities. At present I am tutoring a College Student who is Autistic. I have the patience and understanding plus skills to tutor anyone.

My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I first assess your reading ability, and whether you are having problems in math as well. Review the TPRI scores if you are beyond 2nd grade to see what the last one taken shows. Work on improving your vocabulary and comprehension skills, and start the early introduction of how to teach sequencing skills, organizational skills, check into your spelling abilities, how to tackle homework, and offer help aids for anyone who gets an explanation about a paper to do at home but cannot remember what they are to do. I provide solutions to some of these problems.

One-on-one, sequential, multisensory, and repetitive approach.
Time spent attending conferences and workshops began to help me learn how to help my severely-dyslexic son and grandson. Then I helped apply some of the concepts learned to help several dyslexic families with the problems they had including ADD/ADHA, organizational, spelling, reading, and comprehension issues. I have been volunteering for several years gaining experience along the way. Every student I have helped has had some kind of learning disability involved and guess those have various levels of dyslexia. I attended college later in life. Recently, the opportunity arose to better myself. I chose Early Childhood Education and then continued on to obtain my Bachelor's Degree. Following this, I returned to school for Nursing. Eventually, we moved to Texas where I applied,tested and obtained my LCCA License.
While in New York State, I was employed through the Alternative Suspension Program as an LVN. While there,I assisted with the teaching of students. This in turn gave me the opportunity to obtain my certification in Teaching. I remained in this position for two years. During this time, I had my own case load of 5-8 students grade 7-12. Following this position, I was employed at a tutor for those youth who were home bound.

Explaining, showing, teaching, have always been something that I enjoyed doing. If I can pass on my knowledge to someone new then, my college hardships and achievements, were all worth it. It is up to educators to teach younger generations; without us they will not know anything. After all they, the younger generations, are our future. I believe that hands on, coupled with visual learning makes for the best recipe. This allows for students to engage physically, while connecting mentally.
