Passionate and Patient Tutor

Hello! My name is Kristin. I am 28 years old and very passionate about teaching and working with students. I am an experienced tutor and have worked with students of all ages and disciplines. In addition, I have also worked as a teacher's aid in Duval County working with elementary students one on one to help them master areas where they had difficulties in. The students I worked with all saw great gains in areas that they had previously struggled in. I prefer to use a more individualized teaching style and it is important that each and everyone of my student's program is specifically created and tailored to meet his or her educational needs. For school-age children, my current availability (as of 12/11/2013) is as follows: Tuesday- 7:30PM-9:00PM Thursday- 6:15PM-9:00PM Friday- 7:00PM-9:00PM Saturday- 1:00PM-6:00PM For adult or home school students, I am also available W ... read more

My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : I have tutored several students in math. I am a certified teacher in both math and physics.

I enjoy teaching and working with children. While I believe that all children can learn, they do so in their own ways and at their own pace. It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the student(s) understand the material. It is important to show students how one idea builds on the last. I will help your child learn the material in his/her own way. I consider myself to be patient, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable of the subject matter. I truly believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I am very proud of the kind letters of thanks that I have received from parents of some of my students this year.

Work Smart, not Hard

Senior majoring in Psychology and Political Science at Auburn University. I attended a college prep high school in the top 10% of my class. I scored a 29 on the ACT and 1370 (without writing) on the SAT. I'm in the Honors college at Auburn and am a member of multiple organizations and honors societies including the Auburn University Mock trial team and Phi Lambda Sigma honors society. My goal is to attend law school after graduating this spring. I have some experience tutoring high school algebra I/II but I am experienced enough to cover a range of other subjects.
Hands on Socratic method of teaching where the focus is allowing your student to arrive at the answers themselves with the help of some targeted guidance and strategies.

Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

My lessons can range from private lessons to group lessons of no more than five at one time. I prefer to be very involved in my students' progress, and will readily explain any questions that they do not understand. My main strategy is basically to lay out the concepts that will be covered that day, go over several practice problems, and give three or four practice problems for the students to work on independently. For art students, I will demonstrate with explanation the concept that we will be covering in that lesson (be it portraiture basics or still life basics), draw diagrams with the steps clearly labeled, and have the student independently work on a similar piece which applies the same concepts. I will supervise the student's progress and correct any lasting errors, but I prefer to have the students produce an almost entirely independently produced piece each session.

As an educator in the public sector, I recognize the growing gap in education. I also understand the pressure put on teacher's and the lack of time to get student's to where they need to be. It is imperative that students have the opportunity to be provided with academic assistance that is relative to what is needed to progress through school and life. With over twelve years of experience, a Masters in Business, and a Specializing in Educational leadership, I have the qualities that is needed for students achieve academic success.

Better academics combined with more fun is the goal.

I consider it my duty to do what it takes to make the tutoring FUN for the person being tutored.
I have helped friends (and their children) to prepare for exams since when in high school I won various awards for my performance on exams. I won the top score for the Regents exam for Duval County in 1971 and for this I was recognized by the downtown Rotary Club. Also I won the top statewide scholarship award for the Chamber of Commerce and for the N.H.S. due to performance on exams. Also I won the Merit Scholarship award. I have only recently started to do tutoring for pay. Over the years I have helped my children, my grandchildren, and friends and others to prepare for exams ranging from kindergarten phonics up to and beyond SAT exams.

I have a BS in Chemical Engineering and a MS in Materials Science and Engineering, both of which focus heavily on math and physical sciences, particularly physics and chemistry. I was at the top of my class throughout middle and high school, and often volunteered to assist fellow students in areas where I was ahead of the curve. I currently voluntarily tutor my sister in algebra, and have served as a teacher's assistant in a materials science lab course and a general chemistry course while a grad student at the University of Florida. My verbal skills are considerably above average, particularly for a science student (SAT score = 710 verbal, 770 math; GRE score = 680 verbal, 800 math).
