I have worked as an elementary school teacher for 7 years. I have been fortunate enough to teach grades 1, 2, 3, and 4. In my experience I have found that children build confidence through small successes. My philosophy is to set maintainable goals allowing students to meet them frequently building confidence and motivation.
I am structured yet kind. Kids need to feel a connection to their teacher in order to give 100%. I work a great deal on building community in my classroom and allowing kids to appreciate the diversity among themselves. Not all kids are going to excel in all areas. They need to value what they are really good at and share that with their peers. This also creates miniature "experts" which makes all kids feel good. Elementary is one of my top subjects! Was a Nanny for young children

While in College I was a part time nanny for a single Mom with twins. I started taking care of the twins when they were 2 and continued until they were almost 4. I believe that children learn best when the material is most tangible to them. When teaching or tutoring, I make a huge effort to incorporate the students' names into math problems. I make it my goal to find out as much as I can about the students, and then put them in those environments in an imaginative way in some sort of math problem. I am extremely patient with my students, and appreciate gaining knowledge from their statements and insights. When appropriate, manipulatives are wonderful tools as well. I provide a rich, diverse, and creative set of skills and tools (for auditory, visual, and tactile/kinesthetic learners) to assist students, ages five to ten, in their reading, writing, math and social studies subjects.
I've provided tutoring for low-income students on a month-to-month basis around the Albuquerque area. My substitute teaching experience with Rio Rancho district has offered many opportunities for growth as a teacher in many different grade levels and settings.
