I have been taking Russian courses since my freshman year of college. During my senior year, I was a Russian apprentice teacher, teaching groups of 8-9 college students the language 3 times per week. I am very experienced in teaching small groups of college level students. During my senior year of college I was selected to be a Russian apprentice teacher through Kenyon College's Intensive Language Program. I taught students three times per week for approximately an hour each session. I had to go through training for this position, which taught me how to design lessons and utilize teaching tools to help students understand the material. As I am a recent graduate myself, I understand the needs of most students and what it takes to keep them engaged in learning. I prefer to teach in a Casual teaching style and also in a casual teaching environment. Even around proper Russian food or culture to have the student embrace more knowledge. I have found that this works best if one is wanting to learn everyday Russian. If one is comfortable and more laid back, the Russian language tends to stick better in ones brain making things less boring, less confusing, and less complicated. I love teaching children and adults. It is always fantastic to get to know people by ways of communicating. Dialogs, writing and reading excercises are part of my program. I also expect my students to memorize texts by heart. I always play games with children and make sure that learning becomes fun for them. I try to make sure that we change activities during the lesson, students never get bored during my classes. In our world without borders it is very beneficial to know second language.
