Teaching anything is a very gratifying experience. The look on a person’s face upon acquisition of a new skill or acquisition of any new information is worth a hundred words. My approach to teaching many times involves humor. Sometimes even a little humor serves to relax a person and that can facilitate learning. An obstacle to learning is sometimes the tenseness and frustration of attempting to understand anything. After completing my degree in 2007 at the University of New Mexico, I moved to Denver, CO and taught for one year at Morey Middle School. Since the school is only 5 blocks from the Capitol building and a multitude of museums and libraries, I was able to tutor a few students from the school in a real-world environment. I have found ways to connect almost any subject matter from physics to algebra to chemistry nomenclature into something one already knows.
