A Little Bit About Me...

Each of us has a different way of learning but the first step is to appeal to a student's natural inquisitiveness. If they can see real life applications for the skills they are learning they will become engaged and enthusiastic. I have and continue to use many of the skills I learnt in school and they have been instrumental in assisting me to find solutions to complex problems. While working on my BS in Psychology I worked part time as a respite provider for children with brain, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Though I focused more on teaching social skills, I learned first hand that each child has a different way of learning and that not just one style is effective, especially for any special needs child. In addition to remaining patient throughout the learning process, I would strive to find whatever style of learning is most successful with each child's needs.

I have enjoyed teaching for many years. My honors-level undergraduate courses led me to a lot of reading and writing --and to serve as a teaching assistant in ethics for five semesters. Since I also love math and accounting, I was also hired to teach entry-level accounting courses. At work, I served as a beta tester for Excel and began teaching others to use it, as well. I now have thirteen years of experience in teaching accounting, besides two years of coaching college-level composition.
