Throughout my grade school experience I never obtained anything below a 3.0 GPA. As a college student I have acquired a 4.0 GPA and feel confident I can assist with any educational needs. A Little Bit About Me...

I started out volunteering at my children's Mother's Day Out Program where I taught very young children and nurtured them to learn that it was OK for mom to leave because she always came back. We had circle time, learned the basics, how to share, give, receive, pray, hug and make friends. From there I graduated to a more formal training i.e. preschool, where I actually planned lessons and age appropriate curriculum. From there I progressed to substitute teaching elementary and secondary students. I always gained control of my classroom and students and they always commanded respect for me and were engaged in the material that I was given to teach them. Many teachers repeatedly requested me.

I have been privileged to receive an extraordinary education. I want very much to pass along some of this treasure to a young person. My grade school and high school provided exposure to literary classics, languages, and history. My undergraduate work was at the University of California at Davis, which is a world-class school. My teaching style is very simple, but is one that took a long time to learn. In college you are taught everything but HOW to teach. I learned the HOW by watching my teachers and having some very good mentors. I began to ask myself, " why do I learn more from this instructor than that instructor?" No matter what the subject is, you have to learn 2 things to reach the student. One, how does this student learn. Two, you can't force the information. I feel that a student learns more and shows more excitement when they are allowed to find answers on their own. This also takes building a relationship with the student.

I enjoy seeing the "Light Bulb" come on when a student grasps a concept. I tend to defer to the students learning style and teach to their need and understanding. Over the years, I have found that this a most dynamic and effective means of imparting information. In addition, the student is more apt to retain information when taught in this manner.

I hold a provisional Teaching Certification from the State of Michigan; I have begun the process of transferring it to the State of Florida. A Masters degree in Education is in my near future. Prior to moving to Florida I was a football and softball coach for close to 10 years while serving the school district as a long term substitute in several capacities including Elementary and Special Education assignments.
