A Little Bit About Me...

This is important stuff to learn, so I like to give an overview with specific examples on how this will apply in their everyday life. Then we go over the basics. My goal is to get the student to have a strong understanding of the material.

My teaching/mentoring/tutoring style is tailored to the student. I do not believe their is a generic teaching style that will help all students. Most people I have worked with have difficulty understanding a couple of key points and once that obstacle is overcome learning accelerates until the next obstacle is reached. In college prepatory high school, I was on the Honors Math track which gave me intense training in high school and college mathematics as well as Upper level science such as Physics. In college, I earned a Bachelor's degree in English literature and a minor in Hawaiian Studies. While earning a BA, I completed 60 credits of prerequisite courses in Elementary Mathematics, English, Physical Eduction, and teaching techniques. While in college, I completed many research papers in several different areas of study. I have extensive grammatical skills due to the writing and grammar courses included in my area of education. Much of my teaching style I learned while at Apple Computer in one on one computer teaching sessions. I tend to be a very enthusiastic and encouraging anyway, but Apple taught me an additional patience and a lead-learning-out teaching style that promotes self-discovery and avoids simply giving answers. Though it is geared towards adults, I have since found that adapting the patent and deliberate pace of LLO teaching to the learning level of younger children is effective and fun for both myself and the student. I love working with kids. I believe that the kids are our future and if we adults don't help them grow up to be leaders and make better choices in their lives we will not have any sense of direction.
I have earned two bachelor degrees which has given me the chance to motivate other youths and kids to seek the world and don't let it end with High school. There is more to life. Granting that Education is the key to success and without education there will be no sense of direction.
