I hold two part-time jobs in the area of education right now. I am a resource teacher in a middle school where I help special education students and their peers in the general education classrooms to complete class work and to improve on-task behavior. I also am a tutor for a special education middle school student. I help him with his Algebra homework, writing assignments, and reading assignments. From 2008 to 2010, I was a resource teacher in an elementary school. I pulled special education students out of their classes to teach them in small groups with remedial and intervention programs. I believe in a multi-sensory approach to learning. All children learn in their own way. My job as a teacher is to provide instruction in a way the child will learn best, whether that is through movement, audio, manipulative or visual cues. I understand that all children learn at their own pace and I am patient. Learning should also be relevant to a student's life. If the students understands how algebra, reading or music will help them in life, they are more persistent in their education. Finally, learning should be fun. Games allow children to master material without tedious repetition and allow students to make mistakes in a non-judgmental arena. I began teaching in a second grade classroom. After receiving my Master’s Degree in Special Education, I taught at an inner city shelter facility. Shortly thereafter, I taught online for a cyber charter school and tutored at Huntington Learning Center. I have recently taught math at the junior high school level (for 5 years), while coaching softball and basketball.
