Experience Summary
I hold two part-time jobs in the area of education right now. I am a resource teacher in a middle school where I help special education students and their peers in the general education classrooms to complete class work and to improve on-task behavior. I also am a tutor for a special education middle school student. I help him with his Algebra homework, writing assignments, and reading assignments.
From 2008 to 2010, I was a resource teacher in an elementary school. I pulled special education students out of their classes to teach them in small groups with remedial and intervention programs. From 2006 to 2008, I was a volunteer in a resource classroom in an elementary school and an instructional aide in another elementary school.
Teaching Style
I rely on motivational strategies to encourage positive student behaviors by being positive myself and through the following strategies. When possible I allow student choice for what the student wants to work on. A student can finish an assignment in what order makes sense to him as long as he finishes. Or he can break up how much of each assignment he wants to do. I also use flexibility in my teaching methods. I have experience working with student who do not tend to learn very well from traditional teaching methods of mostly verbal or written directions. I teach by breaking up the steps of what is expected and by using manipulatives, small white boards, or graphic organizers.
