A Little Bit About Me...

I am firm but like to use students life experiences and hobbies to teach them subjects. Younger students I like to teach through play due to the fact that I am a firm believer that children learn through play.
I have been studying education since my high school graduation in hopes of one day being the choir director at my high school.At the moment I am a student at UTEP studying bilingual elementary education and plan to receive a masters in music education after receiving my bachelors degree. I am currently a subsitute teacher and am hoping to continue helping students with their studies in the summer and weekends. In my schooland work experience I have worked with children of all grade levels and all subjects.

A Little Bit About Me...

Each child is different. On a one on one setting, it would be advantageous to allow the student some freedom so that their learning style leads to maximum learning. My goal is to teach the student to love self-learning so that the student appreciates learning without a tutor or teacher present. All children can learn in an environment conducive to learning given the tools needed to cope with whatever stress may be interfering with their education process. I strive to connect with the student so that the student knows I am willing to impart a love of learning to them, not just give them a bunch of facts.

I am able to take students at their present levels of cognitive ability and help them to progress and also reinforce concepts that the students might have missed and need to master for complete understanding. I have an MA in history as well as a BA in antropology from New Mexico State University and graduated with honors. I recently finished up the school year tutoring students in grades first through fourth. While teaching at a charter schhool, I also taught and tutored third grade students in reading and math. I have experience in teaching American History to incoming freshmen at the local community college here in El Paso, TX.
I thoroughly enjoy tutoring children on a one-to-one basis because I beleive that students progress more if they get individual attention. I get to see the students' faces light up when they "get it" and knowing that I have made some impact in their lives is very rewarding.
