My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I worked with elementary students as a substitute teacher and feel comfortable working with them in most subjects. I also taught French at the elementary level and worked with 5th and 6th graders in creating dances and performing them in the Chance to Dance program in Rhode Island.

I have varied and vast teaching experience (please see individual subjects below). I have a Master's and Bachelor's in French with a minor in Italian and am also a practicing LPN who has been working for the past 8 years in Rehab/Long-term Care and have participated in First Coast Technical College's Preceptor Program, where nursing students are paired with a mentor to practice clinical skills and obtain on-the-job training.

I have been taking classes at Daytona State for 1 semester, but like my credentials said, I have gotten awards through them from my Middle School, and high school. I have been tutoring since 2003. Improving Student Achievement

I believe that all children have the ability to learn. They each learn in a different way and at different rates but they all are able to learn. I promote a variety of teaching styles. My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I have taught learning skills most often. It is a necessary foundation for life long learning.

In groups large or small I have always individualized instruction. I get to know each student's interests and abilities, then build on the abilities using the interests. I believe students learn better when they find activities interesting and fun. I have had students come up to me in a hall years later saying remember when we did ... I find or make games and activities so students can learn while enjoying. I also use patterns and any short cut tricks such as number patterns and phonics to make learning easier.

My teaching style can be described sometimes as "hands off." I prefer for the students to try a task or problem first and then be critiqued on how to correctly perform it.
