My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I have taught learning skills most often. It is a necessary foundation for life long learning.

I have taught full time in public and Catholic schools for 10 years. I taught part time as substitute, long term (months to full semesters or more), tutoring for 16years. While in college I had numerous teaching and tutoring experiences. I participated in the Multicultural Program in college and the American Indian Project. I student taught a full semester on the Hopi/Navajo reservation. I have taught all grades and adults but specialize in K-3 in which I have the most experience. Because my husband and I also had a career in sailing, I taught in several different locations: Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina and Florida. My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I worked with elementary students as a substitute teacher and feel comfortable working with them in most subjects. I also taught French at the elementary level and worked with 5th and 6th graders in creating dances and performing them in the Chance to Dance program in Rhode Island.

I have varied and vast teaching experience (please see individual subjects below). I have a Master's and Bachelor's in French with a minor in Italian and am also a practicing LPN who has been working for the past 8 years in Rehab/Long-term Care and have participated in First Coast Technical College's Preceptor Program, where nursing students are paired with a mentor to practice clinical skills and obtain on-the-job training.
I find out what the student needs help with and tailor teaching accordingly. I have a way of making learning easier and more fun.

Improving Student Achievement

I believe that all children have the ability to learn. They each learn in a different way and at different rates but they all are able to learn. I promote a variety of teaching styles. Tutoring was first introduced to me while in highschool, where I tutored other students on state testing. I began tutoring in 2006 working with afterschool programs in Waco TX. There I worked with Communities in Schools, a non profit organization located across the United States. I tutored and worked with afterschool till 2010. I tutored elementary and high school students.
