My comments on tutoring Sign Language : ASL

Hi! My name is Jessica, and i am a sign language tutor! My mother is deaf, so I was raised constantly immersed in deaf culture and sign language (ASL). I also have experience teaching ASL to people of all ages, and I'm now teaching my own children (ages1 & 2) to sign. I also have some experience as a sign language interpreter.

I obtained my Associates in ASL then went on to my Bachelors in ASL. I plan to pursue a Masters in Social Work for Deaf and HH from Gallaudet University. I have taken several summer classes at Gallaudet to immerse myself in the Deaf world. I worked as a Deaf advocate in upstate NY and maintain advocacy ties within the Deaf community. I served as Vice President of Alpha Mu Gamma which is an honors society for foreign language. I was inducted due to my achievements in ASL. I am very passionate about ASL and the Deaf community. I spent a semester observing ASL classrooms with the goal to analyze the difference between hearing teachers and Deaf teachers. I have worked with two ASL clubs in order to advise the club officers on how best to involve students with meets of the Deaf community in a culturally appropriate m ... read more
