I believe in incorporating multiple methods of teaching language, and with such a complex topic as learning a second, or even third language I also believe in tailoring said methods to the student's specific needs. For example, if one finds a kindred with music, introducing them to french songs would be one of the stronger ways to accomplish fluency and language recognition. My approach is various, it depends on the children. I first have to identify the challenges they are facing. When teaching a foreign language, it is either grammatical, lack of vocabulary but also lack of practice in the logistics of the language (position of the words in a sentence). I try to remove the teaching from pure translation from English to French as this leads to poor fluency. This is the main challenge, and I explain it by relating it to French historical facts or habits which helps the students to relate to the language and hence, ease their learning. I also work extensively on correct pronunciation.
