I started by tutoring introduction to chemistry- college level at the University of Texas - El Paso where I attended. This was a part time student job that made me consider teaching. I then tutored chemistry, physics, and mathematics at a nearby high school. This was the preparation for the state exam (Texas) called TAKS. This introduced me to the high school level and I liked it. I went ahead and worked with the school district for one more semester before I was assigned a school for my internship/student teaching. I graduated high school in the International Baccalaureate program with a 4.5 gpa and 30 college credits. I then went on to the University of Colorado starting out as a sophomore. I graduated 3 years later with a degree in Integrative Physiology. I have an extensive background in science and math. While at CU I was able to tutor children through a program called Reading Buddies where I would meet every week with them every week and read to them in English. If they can realate the information to an actual happening, they are more likely to remember. In terms of test preparation, aside from learning the information it is important to work on test-taking skills (relaxation, focus, etc.).
