I graduated at second to the top of my High School Class. I have a 4.0 GPA with ASU. I believe in being strict about studying. I believe in taking education seriously. Why have to back track? Many people could easily get good grades without applying studying or being in class. I always worked very hard to organize studying techniques and times so I understand the challenges that students face a lot of times.
Caring and Loving. Visual, providing examples in a real-world context. Teaching in a style that the student understands best!

English Tutoring for Foreigners! Can speak Chinese!

I try to use a variety of materials that are both interesting and effective to learning how to speak authentic English. I encourage students to use their English at every opportunity and, when learning, to learn things in context, and not as some isolated phrase or word that may be harder to remember.
I taught English to preschool-age students and elementary school students abroad for a period of about 5 months and learned a lot in that short time. I also can speak Mandarin Chinese at lower intermediate level and lived in China for over 2 years. I can understand and appreciate the difficulties involved in learning a foreign language, especially for Chinese natives. The TEFL certification taught me many things that I have already used in the past, and I am currently finishing my TEYL Certificate (Teaching English to Young Learners). In the past for several years, I have been invo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a BA in French and Elementary Education and taught for 4 years in multi-age classrooms. Then I tutored while I stayed home with my children. I resumed teaching 1995 and earned an MAT in Elementary Education in 1998. My experience continued in multi-age classrooms where I taught reading, math, English, handwriting, science, social studies, P.E., art, and music for grades 1-6. I also tutored students after school in remedial reading using Project Read.
My approach to teaching is that all children can learn given opportunities in a "safe" environment. I taught many students with learning challenges and I had to individualize their program. I used multiple intelligences to help students learn using their strengths to help them with their weaknesses. It made learning more fun and easier for them to grasp.

A Little Bit About Me...

Having taught college English in rural China, I have found that I am extremely adaptable in my teaching style. I have the ability to precisely coordinate my teaching techniques with the background and needs of the student in order to create a succesful and executable educational support system. In teaching, I aim to provide the student with a breadth of perspective in any given topic while enhancing their analytical abilities. It is my firm belief that a mindful tutor can help make a mindful student, and that every student deserves systematic and attentive support. In teaching each and every one of my students, I take to heart the philosophy that a good education is absolutely invaluable.

I attended college at three different schools, on athletic scholarship in two of them. I earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Philosophy and BA in Political Science. After graduating I spent one semester teaching sciences at an outdoor based alternative middle and elementary school just outside of Austin, TX. In college and afterwards I have continued to be involved in issues regarding immigration and minorities. I spent one year living and working in the Central Andes in Peru. Part of that job was teaching English to adults and children in their communities. This has given me a high level of fluency in Spanish and an ability to work in crosscultural situations.
I do not believe in hierarchy. I think the teacher-student or tutor-student relationship should be one of equal footing and mutual discovery. This means asking questions together and seeking out the fundamental answers ... read more

My teaching style is Socratic in method. I have learned a large variety of techniques to help teach some of the most basic to the most advanced concepts to a large audience of students. I like to mold my teaching style to fit with each individual student. As a teacher of special-needs and emotionally handicapped children, I have learned techniques that make me a formidable teacher in any environment, so long as I am familiar with the material. Every student can learn with motivation. Most of my classes were self-paced, and I had great success in motivating students of all types. My most recent position was teaching science to at-risk high school students who averaged 4th grade levels in reading and math. Every participating student earned credits in science, a first for most of them. My interest in them as individuals and willingness to give each one of them my attention, then let them take charge of their own learning, paid off in results of which I'm very proud. I encourage an environment conducive to learning; I am open to any approach that works for my students; and I believe patience trumps time-tables.
After many years as a Wyoming rancher and three years as an ESL volunteer, I returned to school to become an ESL professional. With my Master of Education degree in hand, I taught a year of ESL classes at Cochise Col ... read more

Teaching Style: When the school busses arrived in the morning at Drumlin Farm, I would always welcome the visiting pupils with great enthusiasm. I would determine what the boys and girls already knew, or thought they knew, and what they would like to learn. Then we would go off to have a joyous and educational time learning about, and milking the cows, collecting and scrambling eggs, or planting pumpkin seeds in the warm May soil. I still remember the inner city classroom teacher who remarked on how "Johnny", a boy who tended to cause trouble in the classroom, was now thoroughly engaged in the project, and eagerly helping his buddies.
My Experience: In 1964, I graduated from Columbia College, in Geology. Subsequently, I worked in oil well drilling in Israel, and on a dam project in New Jersey. After earning an MA in Art Education, at Brooklyn College in 1975, I helped found the Wal ... read more
