A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with a BA in Sociology in 1995 and working in social services for some time, I decided to enter the field of education. I began teaching high school in 2002 and earned my Alternative Teacher Certification in 2004. I am certified in the state of Florida in the areas of Sociology 6-12, Family and Consumer Science 6-12 and PE K-12. I have taught parenting, child development, nutrition and ESE on the job training to high school students. Aside from this, I have recently returned to college to refresh my math skills.
I enjoy working with children and seeing "aha" moments. All children have the ability to learn, just in different ways. I am creative and think outside the box to assist students with their own learning style. I adapt easily to a variety of environments and am warm and friendly.

I very much enjoyed my experience as a teaching assistant. Also, my clinical experience as a student physical therapist has allowed me to see that all people have different teaching styles, and the teacher has to recognize that and adapt accordingly. I make a consistent effort to do this with my patients, to use whatever it takes so they can understand such as demonstration, verbal, or allowing them to just do it.
Currently, I am in my final year of obtaining my doctorate degree in physical therapy. As an undergraduate student, I served as a teaching assistant to the freshmen biology labs which involved me grading lab reports, setting up exams, and primarily teaching the students what they did not understand from lecture. It was extremely rewarding, and I loved doing it. I am very strong in the sciences and math because those were the emphasize of my undergraduate degree.

A Little Bit About Me...

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of education. I believe that education is the key to our freedom in life. I hope to teach this philosophy to my students. As a teacher, I would describe myself as laid-back and patient. I have found that my patience is what helps me in helping students comprehend the information they are learning. I teach to every learning style and intelligence. I believe all children can learn much more than we expect of them, they just have to be taught the way they learn. Diversity is what makes our world go around, and that is what I teach to my students.
Growing up, I never thought that I would want to be a teacher. After taking a job as a Childcare Counselor with the YMCA, I realized the I was meant to teach and work with children. I have been working with the YMCA for close to three years. I graduated from Manatee Community College with my ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always provided a positive learning-centered environment in my classroom by just being myself and being honest with my students. I have an open door policy that meant I was always available to provide support and help to students when they needed it, but at the same time I think I provided an even balance with my expectations of them. The type of teacher and person that I am reflects directly into my teaching style. I always bring real life situations into the classroom. Aside from just the text material, I always try to get my students to look outside the box from all angles. I really want them to be prepared for any situation that may arise. I feel they really need to be prepared for what the real world is going to throw at them. I have always tried to use a variety of different methods to help my students learn in the classroom.

A Little Bit About Me...

I retired last year after teaching Learning Disabilities for 35 years at the high school level. I have taught most subject areas but specialized in math. I also tutored for the last 8 years in the Hospital Homebound Program working with 6th-12th graders in nearly all required subject areas after school. Last year I tutored eight students grades 3rd through 6th in math and english for a private tutoring company.
My teaching style is reflected in my 35 years of teaching Learning Disabilities. Every student has a different learning style that they use in the educational setting. I use a variety of teaching approaches to find the most productive with the individual student. In all approaches the end result must be the understanding of the material and the ability to show competence. The majority of my teaching and tutoring experience has been with small groups or individually whi ... read more
