A Little Bit About Me...

I am a one on one person when I teach or tutor. I homeschooled my son for one year before sending him to public school and found that to be quite rewarding. When I tutor a student, I like getting to know the student, their experiences and how their perceptions of topics that they will have to write about in the college arena. The reason is not solely for me to learn the student as an individual and help them specifically, but also to allow the student to learn more about themself so that they inevitably learn how to create definitve theses and write coherently. Before one can write well, they must understand the topics and how they perceive them.

I currently have a bachelors degree in sociology with a minor in elementary education. During the past 4 years and working in the early childhood education industry I realized that many teachers were not getting the proper training that they needed to receive to help the children that they are serving. Once I realized this I decided to work on my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education in hopes that i could be an Early Childhood College Professor and teach students the ins and outs of the early childhood industry. While getting my bachelors degree I tutored in subjects such as reading,writing, math, and science as well as art.

As a graduate in special education, with emphasis in speech and hearing, I helped students improve language skills and articulation deficiencies. I used their curriculum and texts. I then obtained my master's degree in Special Education - Mild/Moderate Disabilities, and certification in Elementary Education. I worked with students who were general ed and special needs. For the last 10 years I have taught middle school level, except for teaching a 2nd grade class for one year, and acting as speech therapist for grades K-6. I believe in hands on learning. Everyone can learn but each individual is different and we each learn in different ways. Hands on learning allows the learner to experience the material visually, auditorily, and kinetically. I think it is extremely important to get to know my students and their needs individually.
