I choose to become a teacher because I think educators are one of, if not the most, influential people in the course of someone's life. Every student has the potential to excel in any subject, and I believe it is important to find out how the student learns best and implement this in teaching/tutoring them. Teaching requires patience and determination, and I believe these are two qualities I possess.
I have spent the last five years in the United Kingdom working on my bachelor and master degrees in English Literature and Applied Linguistics. From 2003-2006 I volunteered at the University's Language Resource Center where I tutored international students on their English language skills (reading, writing, speaking) and study skills. I have just spent the past two months (July-August 07) working at a study tour program for Italian students. I was an ESL teacher and taught 15-20 studen ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked as a substitute teacher for the Broward County School System from 2006 until 2007. When I moved to St Lucie County I obtained a position within the St Lucie County School System as a substitute teacher until 2008. I have taught kindergarten through 12th grade students.
I loved working with younger children. I found that 1st grade though 4th grade students tend to be my favorite group. At this age they are extremely willing to learn new skills and subjects. I love to see the expression on their faces when something clicks for them and they just get it. I believe in helping children to strive for that feeling every day and showing them that they are capable of reaching whatever goals they set for themselves.

I love spending time with children and teaching them new things. It is exciting to see children learn and make progress in school. When dealing with a child that I do not know, I like to have them talk. I think talking to children about anything, not just school, can help form a relationship with them. I also like the parents to be involved and know what their child is struggling with and what exactly they expect from me.From experience, I have realized that some teachers might teach in a way that makes it difficult for some students to learn.A tutor may be a solution to this problem.
I have an Interdisciplinary Social Science degree from the University of South Florida. While attending college, I worked as a nanny/tutor for 2 years. More About This Tutor...

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Spanish and Religion. I have been tutoring for over four years at all grade levels. I won the scholarly writing award for my writing and grammar skills, and have a broad knowledge of English and Spanish grammar. I have tutored various subjects including math, history, Spanish, and language arts. I love teaching, especially one on one where I can give my full attention to the student.
I taught K-8 Spanish, then third grade. I understand that each child learns differently, so many methods may need to be incorporated. Repetition is something I rely on to learn vocabulary words or important concepts. Music and games are a fun way to help children and adults learn difficult or lengthy concepts. I want to be able to not only help the child understand what they're supposed to be learnilng, but also to enjoy learning it.
