My comments on tutoring Algebra I : I am a certified secondary math teacher in Kentucky with a professional degree (ABD) in curriculum and instruction with an emphases in mathematics education and assessment. I have 16 years of high school teaching experience and taught Algebra 1 several times over those years. I also served as math department chair, a mentor teacher, and primary curriculum writer. My comments on tutoring Algebra I : Algebra can be easy! There is no reason why students should have to struggle with it. I've seen many reasons why students haven't gotten an A in it, and that's usually because they just aren't focused or can't seem to get motivated. Another problem with Algebra has been making connections with real life. It's very hard for a lot of kids to "get into" something when they can't see the use of it. Those real-world connections really need to be made.

I am very active in the classroom and I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable. There are so many ways to help children learn, yet many of them are not used for one reason or another. If information must be memorized, I like to put it to song or a rap. Other methods of learning that are very useful are concept maps, discussions, and performing. Another very successful method that I've employed is having the student actually teach me rather than me teach the student. It is VERY effective.
I've got around 8 years of college and university work under my belt, and I am getting ready to finish a BA in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I love teaching. Teaching confidence through kindness and success

Learning can be fun...if done the right way

I lived my whole life in Damascus, Syria. Coming to the States every summer was very interesting for me, having the best of both worlds, my mother being from Kentucky, and my father syrian. Throughout my life, i never understood the value of being bilingual. Now i am very grateful for my upbringing and the education i was given. Arabic is a hard yet beautiful language, and one that will be spoken by all soon. I studied in the International school of Choueifat for 10 years, and for my senior year in high school, moved to a boarding school in Brummana,Lebanon. Sadly Arabic was not taught in that school, and thats when i came to appreciation with the language we all take for granted.
